چکیده
HIERHOLZER, KLAUS, ROBERT CADE, RUTH GURD, RICHARD KESSLER AND ROBERT PITTS. &‘top-flow analysis of renal reabsorption and excretion of sulfate in the dog. Am. J. Physiol. 198(4) : 8yy-837. 1g6o.-Utilizing the stop-flow technique, the site of reabsorption of inorganic sulfate has been localized in the proximal part of the nephron of the dog. Sulfate is most avidly reabsorbed in that portion of the proximal tubule which most actively secretes PAH. No evidence of secretion of inorganic sulfate in any part of the nephron or of reabsorption of inorganic sulfate in more distal parts of the nephron has been found. However, the infusion of large quantities of sodium sulfate activates the mechanisms of urinary acidification and of potassium and ammonia secretion located in the terminal nephron. This activation is similar to that induced by sodium phosphate and by sodium ferrocyanide and is interpreted as resulting from the presence of unreabsorbed anion in distal tubules and collecting ducts. The infusion of glycine specifically stimulates ammonia secretion.

Renal tubular reabsorption of inorganic sulfate in the normal dog.
Inorganic sulfate is formed during the metabolism of the sulfur-containing amino acids. Although its exact functions are not well understood, the body nevertheless maintains a basic store of circulating sulfate at all times. Its plasma level, although low, is fairly constant, being maintained in the normal dog within limits of 1.2 and 1.8 millimols per liter. The maintenance of plasma concentra...

The stop-flow method has been used to study various aspects of renal tubular transport mechanisms. According to this method, aldosterone promotes the tubular reabsorption of sodium in the distal tubule. The method also indicates that the secretion of potassium, hydrogen and ammonium occurs in a very distal portion of the nephron. The substitution of anions such as ferrocyanide, sulfate and phos...
